A delicious quick bread, steaming hot and out of the oven in less than an hour! Makes 2 loaves.
- 4 Cups Unsifted Flour
- 1 tsp. Salt
- 3 tsp. Baking Soda
- 1/4 Cup Sugar
- 1/8 tsp ground Cardamom
- 1/4 Cup Butter
- 1 Egg
- 1 3/4 Buttermilk or Sour Milk*
- 2 Cups Raisins
Mix Together dry ingredients. Grate in butter. Mix together lightly. Mix together eggs and milk, add to dry ingredient. Lightly mix and add raisins. Turn onto floured surface and knead for a couple minutes. Add more flour, if needed till dough isn’t too sticky.
Split dough in half and shape into rounds. Cut cross on top of each.
Bake at 375 on lightly oiled pan for approximately 30-40 minutes, till a deep golden brown.
*For sour milk just add a tsp of white vinegar to regular milk and let rest a few minutes
