Montara vs. Diamond Turkish Towel
We sell two styles of classic Turkish towel designs, but in a higher quality weave, thickness and longevity than many on the market. Here is a bit more about the qualities that brought these towels into the Minnie and Moon range and how I use them myself:
Diamond: I had seen other diamond style Turkish towels before, but when I received samples from this Turkish manufacturer, they were a higher quality than I had experienced. They are especially thick, incredibly absorbent, absolutely beautiful, extra large, and they fold down compactly. These towels don’t get musty, need to be washed less frequently than terry cloth as they dry so quickly. I also have the fringe tied rather than twisted, as twisted tassels on towels of this thickness can come undone in the wash. And the style and quality of weave make these far less likely to shrink than other Turkish towels I’ve used. These are my favorite bath towels, I have some I use as throws in my home, for local picnics and beach days, etc.
Montara: This towel was named for a beautiful and rugged beach just south of San Francisco. While not quite as soft at the diamond, they soften significantly with washing. The weave is sturdy and long lasting. Only a little smaller than the Diamond towels, but they fold down to less than half the size. The incredibly compact size makes these absolutely ideal for travel and bringing on the road. I just brought two on vacation and they were perfect for the more limited luggage restrictions on airlines in Europe. Over the course of the trip the Montara towels were used as a shawl, picnic blanket, beach towel, bath towel, a pool towel, throw, sarong, a little cover in an unexpected rain storm, and rolled up for neck support on the plane. Because they dry so incredibly quickly they were dry in no time between uses and washes. I also like to keep one or two of these in my car for any of the wide variety of uses. The fringe on these is twisted, but because of the style of weave and size of fringe, it holds up well and doesn’t come undone like the diamond would if finished in this way. These towels are best washed and dried on cooler temps to prevent shrinkage. Or just hang and they dry very quickly.
I have brought in dozens and dozens of samples from multiple sources to find the best towels at great prices, and quality that will hold up with rigorous use. For good reason, our Diamond towels are our best seller. Straight away they are insanely soft, large, absorbent, once customers feel the fabric at events they are sold. When I first opened a sample of the Montara I was skeptical, but was pleasantly surprised with how it softened and how well it worked after washing. And I absolutely loved how compactly they folded down. While these aren’t as showy as the diamond, these towels have found a valuable place in my home and life.
